About the Programme
Horticulture Programme History
Horticulture Programme was opened in Baskil Vocational School in 2011. It is the first programme to receive students within the school. It received its first student in 2012. In 2014, it gave its first graduates. Baskil Vocational School aims to train students at national and international level with a total of 9 academic staff, new campus area, application areas, laboratories and aims to grow a little more every day.
Profile of the Programme
In the horticulture programme, besides the basic knowledge about horticultural crops (fruit and vegetable) cultivation, other related subjects (meteorology, agricultural marketing, cooperatives, environmental pollution) are also taught. Therefore, students are also equipped with other related subjects. In addition to apricot farming, which is an important source of income for Baskil district, viticulture, which is important for the region, and plant protection course, which is important for pesticide dealership, special elective courses on agricultural control methods are given. The programme is an academic-oriented programme that provides the graduates of Level 1 in the Bologna Process Higher Education Qualifications Framework and Level 5 in the NQF with the qualifications of transition to professional practice areas, research areas and undergraduate programmes that require advanced knowledge, skills and competencies. Qualification Awarded Degree
Horticulture programme in the field of 120 ECTS credits and is subject to a 2-year associate degree system. When the programme is successfully completed and the programme qualifications are provided, an associate degree in horticulture is obtained and the title of "Technician" is taken.
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a high school or equivalent school diploma and must have obtained enough points from the YGS6 score type from the university Student Selection Examination.
Transition to Upper Level
Students who have successfully completed this program can study in undergraduate programs by passing to the relevant departments of the Faculties of Agriculture within the quotas with the DGS (Vertical Transfer Exam) exam held by OSYM. After their adjustments are made, they continue their education from the 3rd grade.
Graduation Requirements
Students of this program are required to pass the courses equivalent to 120 ECTS, to do 30 working days of summer internship and to obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2 out of 4.
Graduate Employment Opportunities
Students who complete the program find employment opportunities in public institutions (central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, agricultural credit cooperatives), seed dealers, fertilizer companies, pesticide dealers. In addition, if they pass the dealership exam, they have the competence to open their own pesticide dealers and have the opportunity to provide agricultural consultancy.
