Organic Agriculture Program
History
Organic Agriculture Program was opened in Baskil Vocational School, Department of Crop and Animal Production in 2013. The Organic Agriculture Program will complete its first semester at the end of 2017 in the newly completed campus area in Baskil District of Elazığ province at the end of 2017. Baskil Melek School of Higher Education has a total of 3 academic staff and aims to train students at national and international level with its application areas and laboratory facilities.
Program Profile
Organic Agriculture is a form of controlled and certified agricultural production from production to consumption without using chemical inputs in production. The aim of Organic Agriculture is to protect environmental plant, animal and human health without polluting soil and water resources and air.
Earned Degree
Organic Agriculture Program in the field of 120 ECTS credits and is subject to a 2-year associate degree system. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are provided, an associate degree in Organic Agriculture is obtained and the title of “Agricultural Technician is taken.
Admission Requirements
Within the framework of the regulations determined by YÖK, student admission to this program is through the examination system conducted by the Measurement and Placement Center. Student registration procedures are carried out within the framework of the principles determined by ÖSYM. Each year, the Rectorate of the University announces the registration date, the required documents and the registration places of the student candidates who will register for the first time at the University.
In order to successfully complete all of the courses available in the Organic Agriculture Program (120 ECTS in total) and to graduate, they must be successful in all the courses foreseen in the curriculum.
Transition to Upper Level
Candidates who have successfully completed their associate degree education can study in the undergraduate program by passing the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) to the relevant departments of the Faculties of Agriculture within the quotas.
Graduation Requirements
Students who pass all of the courses (equivalent to 120 ECTS) in the course plans of the associate degree probrams they are enrolled in and who have successfully completed the internship shown in the Firat University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training and Examination Regulations by obtaining a weighted grade point average of at least 2 out of 4 are considered to have completed the University education and training.
Graduate Employment Opportunities
Graduates of Organic Agriculture Program; public institutions and organizations (Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock provincial and district directorates, research institutes, municipalities) agricultural cooperatives, private enterprises can work as well as establishing their own businesses. At the same time, they can also take part in private farms and control and certification bodies engaged in organic farming.
Assessment and Evaluation
Each student must register for the courses at the beginning of the semester and in order to be able to take the final exam; they must have attended at least 70% and at least 80% of the applications. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of midterm exams to the success grade is 40% and the contribution of final exams is 60%. All exams are evaluated on 100 points. It is obligatory to get at least 50 points in the final exams. Students who receive one of the letter grades (AA)(BA) (BB)(CB) and (CC) from a course are considered to have succeeded in that course.(DC) and (DD) grades are conditionally successful grades. In order for a student to be successful in a course with a DC or DD grade, the GPA must be at least 2:00.
